This unforeseen event not only disrupted daily activities but also posed a significant threat to both educational materials and the school’s IT infrastructure. Collaborating with various services within Derbyshire County Council, the school found refuge at the Whitemoor Centre in Belper. During the relocation process, the IT team demonstrated exceptional efficiency by promptly installing a new Wi-Fi system and implementing a Starlink satellite system to ensure uninterrupted internet connectivity. The school’s existing server, having withstood the floodwaters, was successfully moved to the new site, enabling students to access their work seamlessly.
Reflecting on this collaborative effort, a school representative expressed gratitude, stating, “ICT services were instrumental in helping us move school sites after our school flooded. They were able to provide emergency network services within days of securing our new site and then worked tirelessly to ensure our server was fully installed on our new site to allow all devices to ‘just work.’ This played a significant role in minimizing disruptions not only to children’s learning but also to essential school administration that relies on internet access.”
